How Formula 1 tyres are washed
Formula 1 is the pinnacle of technology. Everywhere you look in the paddock, you'll find cutting-edge engineering, state-of-the-art equipment and immaculate hospitality units.
Yet at the end of every day, one surprisingly low-tech ritual takes place.
After the cars return to the garages, the teams simply wash their wheels and tyres by hand, with the dirty water flowing straight onto the paddock roadway in front of the hospitality units. If you're walking through the paddock after the sessions, there's almost no way to avoid stepping through it.
It's a strangely ordinary sight in one of the world's most advanced sporting environments. On one side, multi-million-euro motorhomes with polished floors and designer interiors. On the other, mechanics scrubbing wheels with hoses and brushes as dirty water runs across the pavement.
It looks completely out of place—but inside the Formula 1 paddock, it's simply another part of the daily routine that nobody seems to question.

Probably the coolest video wall in Formula 1
Every Formula 1 team has its own visual identity. The branding extends far beyond the cars—to the garages, transporters, engineering offices and hospitality units.
McLaren may have the most striking feature of them all.
McLaren has built the entrance to its hospitality unit into a massive three-sided LED video wall. It feels premium rather than flashy, creating one of the most impressive first impressions anywhere in the Formula 1 paddock. The display continuously showcases the team's drivers, historic moments and celebrations from McLaren's recent 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix.
We filmed this short video during our recent paddock walk at Barcelona. It lasts only a few seconds, but it gives a glimpse of one of the coolest visual displays anywhere in the Formula 1 paddock—and one that television cameras almost never show.

The Real Star Power
Television can never fully capture the sheer star power of today's Formula 1 drivers.
The photo and video below were taken about an hour after Lewis Hamilton's first Ferrari victory. At the time, Sky Sports F1 was broadcasting its post-race show featuring Natalie Pinkham, together with Nico Rosberg and Jacques Villeneuve—two Formula 1 World Champions providing expert analysis just a few metres away.
Yet almost nobody was watching them.
Instead, hundreds of fans were waiting for Hamilton. The moment he appeared, the entire crowd moved with him. Within seconds, Ferrari's newest race winner was surrounded by fans, leaving two former World Champions almost invisible.
It was a remarkable moment to witness in person and a reminder that Formula 1's biggest stars command a level of attention that television simply cannot convey. Some drivers win races. The biggest stars make everything else disappear.
